Dr. Jon Mitzmacher

Dr. Jon Mitzmacher was born in New Jersey and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he attended the University of California at Berkeley graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1994. He continued his studies at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, CA graduating in 1997 with a Master’s degree in Education and in 1998 with a Master’s degree in Business Administration. He completed his Ed.D. in Jewish Education in 2012 from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. He is currently pursuing rabbinic ordination at the Academy for Jewish Religion in New York.

Dr. Mitzmacher spent three years working at the Bureau of Jewish Education for Greater Los Angeles working as the Educational Director of the Youth Programs Department. Dr. Mitzmacher then moved to Old Westbury, New York on Long Island’s North Shore where he worked for three years as the Director of Education for Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation. After that he moved to Manhattan in order to pursue his doctoral studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary and to serve as the Religious School Principal for Sutton Place Synagogue.

After completing his coursework and comprehensive exams, he moved to Las Vegas in 2002 and spent five years as the founding Head of the Solomon Schechter Day School of Las Vegas (SSDS-LV). During that time, the school grew from six students to a full K-5 elementary school. In 2007, Dr. Mitzmacher moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he was head the Head of the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School, a K-8 Schechter. In 2013, Dr. Mitzmacher was named Executive Director of the Schechter Day School Network. In 2016, Dr. Mitzmacher helped launch Prizmah: Center for Jewish Day Schools where he is assumed the temporary role of Vice President of Innovation to help ensure Schechter’s successful transition. In 2017, he returned to the headship and as the Head of School of the Ottawa Jewish Community School. After eight successful years, he is excited to be joining Scott Goldberg Consulting (SGC) as a Senior Director.

He has served as a Mentor for the Day School Leadership Training Institute (DSLTI) since 2021. He currently lives in Ottawa with his wife Jaimee, a private tutor specializing in reading disorders, and daughters Eliana (age 20) and Maytal (age 17)
